Even the wind knows it’s just a supporting actor in Kareena Kapoor Khan’s world — at a trailer launch in Juhu on Monday.

Bites with bhai

Back in the ’Bay, Shahneel Gill confessed to renewing her “annual subscription” as she celebrated Rakhi with brother Shubman on Friday, before heading out to dinner with him and a handful of friends. Arriving in his blue Mercedes-AMG Roadster, the cricket star landed — as it happens — at a table next to yours truly at Gaijin in Bandra.
From chef Anand Morwani’s standout Salmon Gunkan to the Crab Temaki, Shubman and his posse worked their way through several of the restaurant’s signature dishes, while we nibbled on a divine Mushroom Tataki before diving into a deep dish of Crab Udon Noodles.
Meanwhile, the mood at Gill’s table was relaxed and convivial, with plenty of conversation and laughter as the group settled into the space. Shubman, dressed casually, seemed perfectly at ease, chatting with friends (including comedian Tanmay Bhat) and lingering over dinner as the restaurant hummed around them.
A few hours, several house specialities and one very recognisable AMG later, the evening proved that some Rakhi celebrations come with considerably better dinner plans than others.

Gymkhana lands in Dxb

Once all my favourite London eateries have been visited (Comptoir Libanais tops that list) and a handful of pies and scones have been consumed, my butter chicken and naan radar starts to tingle. Of course, when you want the finest London has to offer, you head to Gymkhana in Mayfair for what they call ‘Chicken Butter Masala.’ Hands down, the best you will find anywhere — not just in Blighty — accompanied by the lightest, most perfectly layered naans. Honestly, when their gol guppas hit the table alongside a Burleigh jug full of boondi-dotted jaljeera, thoughts of afternoon tea and other British distractions promptly evaporate.
Classic and consistent (as you would expect from a two-Michelin-starred restaurant), I could not be more excited to discover that this beloved London institution opens in Dubai today. Karam Sethi and his siblings, Jyotin and Sunaina of JKS Restaurants, clearly have world domination on their bingo card — having recently set up shop in Las Vegas, too.
Gymkhana’s Dubai outpost is located at DIFC’s Gate Village and will feature all our London favourites, as well as a selection of new dishes created exclusively for the UAE. Given that I have just returned from a month-long vacation, my visit will have to wait (meanwhile, you might want to make your reservations). On the bright side, though, Dubai is a much easier pilgrimage from Mumbai than Mayfair.

A little India everywhere

Priyanka Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh
While Priyanka Chopra and ‘national jiju’ Nick Jonas belted out I Want It That Way at a Backstreet Boys concert in Las Vegas on Saturday, we couldn’t help but notice a brief darshan from NKOTB’s Donnie Wahlberg in the Jonas box. The Sphere may be known for showcasing the brightest stars, but spotting a Backstreet Boy and a New Kid on the Block in the same arena? Heaven for any ’80s kid.
As Nevada residents (and the rest of us) recover from the weekend that was, the arena action is moving from the US to the UK, with Diljit Dosanjh scheduled to rock Wembley Stadium in London on September 12. His Aura World Tour notwithstanding, Diljit paaji is already omnipresent in the city — his face plastered on ticket barriers across the London Underground system, promoting his 2025 film, Detective Sherdil.
And he’s not the only Indian being showcased front and centre in the British capital: diaspora author Roopa Gulati’s Indian Kitchens is impossible to miss at Piccadilly landmark Fortnum & Mason, having won their Cookery Book of the Year award, while Monisha Rajesh’s Moonlight Express is prominently displayed alongside Arundhati Roy’s Mother Mary Comes to Me at Waterstones.
These little nuggets of India in a global village may be fleeting, but sometimes, even a trail of breadcrumbs is enough to make the heart feel at home.

Secret Sojourn

Salman Khan
Everyone’s “bhai,” Salman Khan made it a point to have his rakhi tied this past weekend, and while the paps captured all that action, the actor jetted off to Goa recently, which no one — other than yours truly, of course — seems to have caught. Showing up to celebrate a family milestone with a dear friend, Salman stayed in the sunshine state only briefly, but the colossal effort he made to be present speaks volumes about the bond he shares with those closest to him. He flew in, made time for the merriments, and was back before most could even catch wind of his little getaway.
Clearly, when it comes to family and friends, even Bollywood’s busiest bhai knows when to drop everything and show up.
