Next-gen takeover

That parents inevitably rub off on their children is one of life’s most charming certainties. In the Khan-Ali household, the genetic mandate has simply split down the middle.
Enter 24-year-old Azaan Ali, fresh off a degree from Bryant University and a solid year back in the ’Bay, cutting his teeth alongside mother Farah Khan Ali. Later this month, it seems Azaan will take centre stage with his debut men’s jewellery line, The Miracle Man, bowing at Farah’s Fort flagship.
“He is very creative and fashion-forward,” Farah tells yours truly, her maternal pride unmistakable, though she’s quick to temper it with insight into his understated demeanour. “He’s kind of shy. He listens more than he talks, and he is very perceptive.”
Armed with marketing savvy, Azaan isn’t merely shadowing the master — he’s arrived with razor-sharp clarity on his audience. Collaborating closely with the in-house design atelier, we hear he has channelled his concepts into heavy-hitting sterling silver and an eclectic cache of gemstones, anchored around an unexpectedly emotive theme: brotherhood.
Of course, putting two strong design sensibilities under one roof is never without its creative friction. “We have divergent opinions, but I have experience and he has youth, so we find a middle ground,” Farah quips with a laugh. “He’s had a crash course in the Farah Khan school of design.”
Meanwhile, sister Fizaa has gravitated toward dad DJ Aqeel’s side of the creative ledger. She is perfectly content behind the decks, happily pursuing life as a DJ with an eye on the hospitality scene.
Two siblings, two powerhouse parents, and two distinctly tailored paths carving up the city’s creative landscape. We can’t wait to see both sparks fly.

Greener pastures

Ajit Agarkar has officially called time on his stint as India’s chief selector, with his tenure ending only a few days ago. Surviving the hottest hot seat in cricket is no small feat — especially with a billion armchair experts scrutinising every squad announcement. The BCCI’s paycheques offer a generous cushion (a far cry from a quarter-century ago, when selecting teams was purely an honorary headache), but it’s hard to say if any amount of money can really compensate for that kind of pressure.
So, what is next for the Mumbaicha mulga? While he has worn the broadcast headset before, don’t expect him to rush back under the blinding studio lights anytime soon.
Instead, look for him on the fairway. An accomplished amateur golfer, Agarkar now has endless clear mornings to trade frantic selection calls for crisp iron shots and quiet greens. Escaping boardroom drama for 18 holes would fit his post-chairmanship life right to a tee. “It had taken a back seat for sure,” Agarkar agrees. Game on, then.

As the whirlwind of Paris Fashion Week settles, one shift is impossible to miss: India’s presence on fashion’s most coveted front rows is no longer the exclusive preserve of Bollywood. While paparazzi still train their lenses on stars such as Huma Qureshi, Rashmika Mandanna, and Aditi Rao Hydari, Paris — and the fashion capitals beyond it — have underscored a more telling reality recently. India’s society set is stepping into the spotlight, and increasingly on its own terms.
Designer Surily Goel swept into Paris for Christian Louboutin’s spectacle, while singer Kanika Kapoor looked effortlessly at home at Chanel. Beyond Paris, Nandita Mahtani brought her signature glamour to Venice for Tiffany & Co’s high-jewellery Blue Book unveiling. Jaya Raheja’s recent fashion itinerary, meanwhile, reads like an insider’s grand tour, taking in Balenciaga, Schiaparelli, Tiffany, and Vogue World in Milan. And then there are Mumbai-bred sisters Snehal and Jyoti Babani — the corporate heiresses known collectively as ‘Snejyo’ — whose unapologetic logomania has caught the attention of European street-style photographers and mainstream media alike.
The message from behind fashion’s velvet ropes is clear: film faces may still command the flashbulbs, but India’s society set is increasingly commanding the luxury conversation. These are the collectors, clients and tastemakers shaping how Indian wealth, style and influence are seen — and lived — on the global stage.

The pride gathers

It’s a jungle out there, but little cub Sipaara Khan clearly commands the pride. For her first birthday, parents Sshura and Arbaaz Khan transformed their suburban home into ‘Sipaara’s Safari’ — a charmingly intimate woodland escape bursting with pastel balloon arches, adorable animal cutouts, and face-painting corners that kept the youngest guests thoroughly charmed.
Yet, true to ‘Khan’daan tradition, it was the warmth of an all-hands-on-deck family gathering that made the evening sing. Salman Khan dropped in to dote on his youngest niece, while patriarch Salim Khan, Salma, and Helen held court as proud grandparents. Arbaaz’s siblings turned out in full force too: Alvira (the OG ‘Baby’) arrived with husband Atul Agnihotri, Sohail Khan brought along sons Nirvan and Yohan, and Arpita Khan Sharma walked in with kids Ayat and Ahil in tow. Playing doting big brother to the birthday girl, Arhaan was all smiles. And with close friends like Kritika Kamra and Gaurav Kapur joining the intimate soiree, Sipaara’s milestone proved that Bollywood royalty does cosy family birthdays with elan.
