At a high-profile reception at New Delhi&rsquo;s Roosevelt House on Saturday, the headlines were decisively stolen by US Ambassador Sergio Gor. The culprit? A custom Shantnu &amp; Nikhil bandhgala that quietly redefined the very fabric of foreign policy.
This wasn&rsquo;t just formalwear &mdash; it was jacket diplomacy at its finest. Delivering a literal manifestation of &lsquo;the best of both worlds,&rsquo; the couture piece featured meticulously crafted Bharat-engraved buttons down the front, seamlessly paired with a crisp United States flag embroidered in gold on the sleeve. Taking over 300 man-hours to create, the US Ambassador&rsquo;s bandhgala was not his first collaboration with designers Shantnu and Nikhil Mehra. &ldquo;Sergio Gor has worn the brand on previous occasions as well, including a high-profile wedding,&rdquo; notes Nikhil.

&ldquo;Cut in a sharply tailored silhouette, this ensemble was detailed with heritage Bharat buttons, gold hand embroidery across the collar, shoulders and cuffs, and a gold resham zari-embroidered American flag insignia along the sleeve &mdash; bringing together Indian artisanal codes with American symbolism in a single frame. The intention was to reflect the coming together of two cultures through craftsmanship and ceremonial dressing,&rdquo; he adds.
&ldquo;The look came together through a private fitting with Sergio Gor at the embassy,&rdquo; says Shantnu. &ldquo;From the very first trial, the bandhgala fell into place naturally on him &mdash; the structure, proportions and ceremonial sharpness aligned almost immediately.&rdquo;
