There is recorded rise in interest among Indians looking to travel across a destinations in India’s Himalayan region, with Dharamshala, Rishikesh and Uttarkashi all witnessing year-on-year growth in accommodation searches, according to a digital travel platform. The increase reflects a growing preference among travelers for quieter, slower-paced holidays, with more people seeking peaceful alternatives to crowded tourist destinations, a movement increasingly referred to as ‘hushpitality’.

The preference for slower, quieter escapes is also reflected in Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook report, which found that relaxation was the primary motivation for travel among 67 per cent of Indian respondents to the survey.
