With a grinding shortage of the kitchen essential causing prices to skyrocket in local markets, a trading enterprise is importing 60 tonnes of it all the way from Egypt
The state of Maharashtra and the African country of Egypt are all set to create history by trading onions for the first time. With a poor crop causing prices of the kitchen essential to soar, traders have resorted to importing the vegetable from the distant shores of Africa.

The shortage of onions leading to the skyrocketing prices, made onions a very costly commodity in the market. For the first time ever, Mumbai will be importing onions from Egypt. The new 60-tonne consignment hit the APMC market this morning after being brought in from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. Representation pic
