The moment arrived amidst fading lights when Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage drew the ire of a departing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The India batter had just seen his team lose a match on the wire, and was understandably on edge. But the 15-year-old’s reaction sparked questions from his temperament to the pressures of high performance at a young age. For Mazher Ramzanali, it is a moment in time. “This could just be a 15-year-old reacting in the moment, and unfair to judge him on it. But it is a moment of learning,” he admits.
Moment in time
Over the span of the last six months, Sooryavanshi’s aggression has fuelled his batting. It has deservedly earned him plaudits. Yet, last week, the same passion left a bitter aftertaste to the match.
