For writer Chandrahas Choudhary, clouds that fog the skies of Mumbai hold a special meaning. They often capture his thoughts as he commutes the great distances of the metropolis in the local train. So, for his second novel, which is set in Mumbai and through which he tells the story of 70 years of India&rsquo;s Independence, Clouds seemed like a fitting title.
This evening, at the launch of Clouds (Simon &amp; Schuster), Choudhary, along with Avid Learning and the Royal Opera House, has brought together an evening of art exhibition and readings along with musical performances that celebrate the natural phenomenon.

The programme will begin with actor Naseeruddin Shah reading excerpts from the book. "He has read from my first novel also. So, this has become a continuous relationship and it is very kind of him to agree to do it," says Choudhary, whose first novel, Arzee the Dwarf, was shortlisted for the Commonwealth First Book Prize, and translated into German and Spanish.
To celebrate the mu&shy;l&shy;ti-lingual spirit of Mumbai, the launch will also witness a musical night with performances in various regional languages . "Clouds play a big role in Indian music in all languages; they are an expression of love, romance and all things great," Choudhary adds.

Among the performances for the evening is one by eminent songwriter Geetu Hinduja accompanied by mu&shy;si&shy;cian Kiyomi Talaulicar. "I am happy to perform as clouds are a poetic subject that blends well with my kind of music. We will perform two western songs and one Oriya song, which speak of emotions that clouds evoke," shares Hinduja. On the other hand, vocalist Himali Vyas will be performing on the theme in Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi. The venue also features a pop-up art exhibition of installations, sculptures and paintings on clouds.
