Tapri

I moved to Mumbai as a teenager, and understanding the Mumbai way of communication took some time getting used to. While a new word would get added to my vocabulary every few weeks, the one word that is still close to my heart is tapri.  While hanging out with new friends in college, a senior said, “Kal subah tapri pe mil ke discuss karte hain”. I didn’t realise it at that time, but the next morning, I didn’t know where and what tapri was. When I called up a friend to ask her, she burst out laughing. Needless to say, I did make it to the tapri that day and went on to make some lifelong memories with my friends at ‘The Tapri’.
