Kanda
I moved to Mumbai from Punjab and one of the first quintessentially Bombay words I learned was ‘kanda’. My cook would keep asking me to buy more kanda and I had no idea what she was referring to, although, in the given context, I knew it was some kind of a vegetable or spice. Several confused conversations and a few bland meals later, I learned that she was referring to onions! That was a revelation for me. Teena Singh is an actor.
