Your daily caffeine fix doesn’t require a swish café with air conditioning and plush furniture. India’s coffee culture has grown ten-fold, and has managed to hit the streets too. From scooters to trucks, the city’s sidewalks are turning into exciting spots for a freshly brewed cuppa. Here’s a look at how Mumbai’s mobile baristas are redefining the coffee game.
The Coffee Rider
A former café barista, Elu Ehlam decided to carve her own path. High rents didn’t allow Ehlam to start with her own café, so she simply balanced one onto a scooter. Operating along Carter Road’s Khau Galli, Ehlam sources her coffee from Mysore and brews with nothing more than a manual espresso maker, a kettle, and a frother. She serves up beverages that easily rival any high-end boutique café. Think: Strawberry Matcha, Iced Latte, Cold Coffee Boba, and more.
