This weekend, four independent ceramic artists come together for a showcase of their unique sculptures

Ever thought about what makes a handmade ceramic piece interesting? It is not just the form, but the process, and the uncertainty behind it. This weekend, that process comes into focus at ClayBay Club, a shared studio space, founded six months ago by independent ceramic artists Suraj Subramanian and Nidhi Chaudhary, along with Swati Jagtap and Purvi Fumakiya, as they come together for the space’s first ceramic showcase.
Co-founder Subramanian says the idea for the studio emerged from a practical need. “We were struggling to afford resources, and a good space to work at. There were a lot of struggles to run an independent practice, and that’s where the idea clicked.” By sharing a studio, they could reduce costs while also supporting other independent ceramic artists, he explains.
