For a year, I’ve been living in Vakola Village, home to East Indians (EI) who’ve captured this migrant’s imagination, and belly, with their distinctive bottle masala. Routinely greeted by the heady aroma of the masala and EI aunty chatter, I’ve felt a strong affinity for the community. And Veera Almeida’s Instagram page, dedicated to EI food, is my go-to to assimilate with the neighbours. I owe it to Veera Bai’s quirky representation of dishes for picking up the local lingo, culinary traditions and some EI chatter.
