Returning to stand-up comedy after a hiatus can be intimidating for anyone, even for a comedian like Rohan Joshi. In his words, it's like "falling asleep for a very long time and waking up and realising that everything has changed." But that hasn't stopped Joshi, who had taken a break to focus on content creation for his comedy collective AIB, from diving right in.&nbsp;

Tonight, he will take the stage with two such comics &mdash; Urooj Ashfaq and Rahul Subramanian &mdash; to entertain the crowd at the first edition of The Daily Bar &amp; Kitchen's (Bandra) monthly comedy nights property, titled The Daily Show.&nbsp;
A brand new world Joshi will be bringing new jokes to the table for this show. "When you have so many new stand-up comedians around you, you can't afford to get complacent. Because they're all so good, they force you to pull up your socks and write better material. It's challenging, but in a good way," he shares, adding that he is excited to perform alongside Subramanian and Ashfaq, who he thinks of as fresh voices that need to be heard. While both Joshi and Subramanian will perform a set of 25 minutes each, Ashfaq's will be a 20-minute performance.

"Most of it is new material. My brand of comedy is absurd and dark, a lot of which you will hear at the gig. I'm also going to try observational humour," says Ashfaq, who started doing stand-up comedy just a year and a half ago, and was a finalist on a recent talent show for women comedians.
Changing times? Joshi recounts how at the start of his stand-up career in 2010, there weren't as many venues hosting comedy nights. "At that point, a lot of our time was spent convincing venues that it was worth it," he says, adding that today, more spaces, including eateries, are willing to throw their doors open to comics. Ashfaq, meanwhile, shares that it's great to see more women trying their hand at comedy now. She says, "The number is still not high enough, which I believe has less to do with disparity and sexism and more to do with the issues that come with being a female comic.

" She adds, "I happen to have understanding parents who don't mind me performing until late at pubs, and I can afford to take a cab back home whenever I get late, but not everyone is that privileged." All said and done, she shares that her experience has been far from unpleasant. "The community is incredibly supportive of new entrants. One piece of advice I've received from everyone is to not worry about my voice, and to just focus on being funny for now. They say that in time, I'll find my voice."
