Pop art explosion
It is a double-bill for the nonagenarian Jyoti Bhatt in Mumbai this weekend though. Across the creek, The Guild Art Gallery is hosting a showcase titled, Kaleidoscope: Jyoti Bhatt at 94. Curated by Ram Rahman, the works tap into the artist’s late stage interaction with pop culture and printmaking. “As a master printmaker, Jyoti Bhatt was engaged with print reproduction techniques. Studying printmaking at the Pratt Institute in New York in the 1960s, he was also exposed to the American photography scene and the Pop Art explosion happening there. Both had a profound effect on his practice,” Rahman explains.
Till January 10; 10 am to 6.30 pm
AT Guild Art Gallery, Ranjanpada, Mandwa Alibaug Road, Alibaug.
Reflections on the self
In a rare return, the prints and works of Padma Shri-awardee Jyoti Bhatt find their way to the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation’s latest showcase, Jyoti Bhatt: The Looking Glass.
