Sangli: A Pune-based techie and self proclaimed godman was arrested on Sunday by the Sangli police, for allegedly manhandling and molesting a woman.

The incident came to light when the 36-year-old woman, along with a social worker from the Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (ANiS), approached Vishrambaug police of Sangli District.
Police arrested Parshuram Anand Naik (30) and his brother Trijyot (28) under relevant sections of the IPC comprising 354 and 323 and also under the relevant sections of Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black magic Act, 2013.
Recalling the incident, the woman who is married, said that in Sangli district some centuries back a saint from a tribal community, known as Balumama, was known to cure people by his supernatural powers, and the Naiks claimed that they were Balumama&rsquo;s avtar.
She said, &ldquo;On March 13, I had approached Naik for a family crisis and to seek some financial stability in our house. He gave me turmeric powder to spread in my house. He would force many women to eat the turmeric powder and also abused them. The Naiks never demanded cash, they only asked for bags of rice, wheat, oil and grocery items.&rdquo;
She added, &ldquo;On Sunday, I was told by the Naiks that me and my family have been trapped by an evil spirit. He said even our family deity from Konkan was upset with me for not turning up and worshipping her.
Parshuram held my hand, put a tika on my forehead and used some expletives. Later he tried to force a handful of turmeric powder in my mouth. He then touched and manhandled me.&rdquo;
ANiS member, advocate Chandrakant Shinde said they had alerted police about the Naiks before but they remained mum on the issue. He said, &ldquo;On Sunday we approached police as the woman met us again.&rdquo;
Police says Inspector Anil Chormale, in-charge of Vishrambaug police station of Sangli District, said, &ldquo;During interrogation Parshuram said he has a master&rsquo;s degree in Computer Science and works in an IT company in Pune. He visits a Sangli temple on Sundays, full moon days and no moon days to address citizens. In his absence his father Anand and younger brother look after this.&rdquo;
