A Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus on Saturday crashed into a divider in south Mumbai while saving a biker from an accident, an official said.
The biker, however, fled from the spot and an official complaint was filed at the MRA Marg police station in the incident. The police has launched a probe into the matter, he said.
In a statement, a BEST PRO said that on July 26, 2025, a BEST bus travelling on route 116/32 (bus number 6701) from CSMT to Gateway of India met with a minor accident at around 8:25 pm. The incident occurred at Swami Dayanand Saraswati Chowk when the driver attempted to avoid a sudden motorcycle that came in front of the bus.
It said that the bus, which was running empty at the time of the incident, crashed into the road divider. Due to the impact of the crash, the front bumper was damaged, the front windshield broke, and the mudguard was also affected.
"There were no passengers on board and no injuries were reported," the officials said.
The motorcyclist did not stop and fled the scene immediately after the incident. Based on the bus driver’s statement, a complaint has been filed at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar (MRA) Marg Police Station against the unknown motorcycle rider, the official statement said.
The BEST authorities have confirmed the incident and further investigation is underway.
Woman loses her left arm in bike accident near Mira-Bhayandar
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a woman lost her left arm in a road accident after she came under a truck, the police said. The incident took place around 5 pm on Saturday near the Samrat Hotel on the Western Express Highway near Mira-Bhayandar.
The woman, identified as Varsha Joshi, was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her husband, Hitesh Joshi. The accident occurred when they attempted to overtake a truck, lost balance, and fell off the scooter. The entire incident was captured on CCTV camera installed in the area. Following the accident, she was rushed to the nearby Orbit Hospital; however, despite efforts by doctors to save the limb, they were unable to reattach her arm due to severe damage.
A police officer said, “While overtaking the truck from the left side, there was an autorickshaw parked on the road. Hitesh Joshi got stuck between the auto and the truck, which caused them to fall. Varsha Joshi fell under the moving truck, and her left hand was crushed under the rear wheel.”
A doctor from Orbit Hospital told mid-day, “We tried to reattach the arm, but the damage was extensive, and there was no sensation left. Because of this, we were unable to save it. The woman has lost her arm. She is currently in the ICU, and her condition is stable.”
The Kashimira police have registered an FIR against the truck driver and initiated an investigation. “We registered an FIR against the truck driver and released him after serving a notice,” said a police officer.
