Police in Maharashtra's Thane city have arrested a Kabaddi coach for allegedly killing a young <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/thane-teen-strangled-stabbed-to-death-case-registered-23351583" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane kabaddi player</a> as he did not like her talking to other boys, an official said on Wednesday, reported news agency PTI.
The arrest of Ganesh Ghambirrao (23) from Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday came after the 17-year-old <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-man-cheated-of-rs-1-75-lakh-in-cyber-fraud-1-person-booked-23351221" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane Kabaddi player's</a> body was recovered from her home in the city's Kolshet area on May 24, he said, reported PTI.
Ghambirrao told police he was upset that the teenager would talk to other boys. He went to her home when she was alone and picked up a fight with her, reported PTI.
The accused then strangled her with a rope and stabbed her.
During their investigation, cops learnt about the possible involvement of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-woman-robbed-after-miscreants-throw-chemical-powder-on-her-in-thane-two-booked-23350036" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Kabaddi coach</a> in the crime from the teenager's family members, said the official from Kapurbawdi police station.
In another case, a 48-year-old man was allegedly killed for making advances on the girlfriend of another man in Palghar district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The body of Ramesh Balan Nayar was found on a hillock, reported PTI.
Acting on a tip-off, police traced one Govind Khaniya alias Bhurya, who told police that Nayar used to tease his girlfriend and also made advances towards her, reported PTI.
"Bhurya called Nayar to a hillock where he punched him and later squeezed his penis," an official said, reported PTI.
Police had found the unidentified body on April 14 and registered a case of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/man-son-arrested-for-bid-to-murder-two-persons-after-quarrel-in-thane-23350007" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">accidental death</a>, reported PTI.
Police have now added a murder charge to the FIR.
Meanwhile, the highly decomposed body of a 29-year-old woman with a rope around her neck was found at her residence in suburban Goregaon on Tuesday afternoon while her husband, the prime suspect, was missing, police said, reported PTI.
The woman, identified as Dibya Toppo, probably died three or four days ago and the body was found wrapped in a plastic sheet, said an official, reported PTI.
She and her husband Jairam Lakada were living in a rented room for the past one year, he said, reported PTI.
When foul smell started coming out of the locked room, the owner broke the lock, only to find the woman's body inside. There was a nylon rope around her neck and her legs were tied.
Her husband Jairam is absconding and a case was registered against him under IPC section 302 (murder) at Vanrai police station, the official said, adding that probe was on.
