Two persons were killed in two different incidents in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-man-held-for-making-hoax-bomb-call-to-police-control-room-23334726" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Nagpur city</a> of Maharashtra within a span of 24 hours, an official said on Saturday.
The first crime was committed at the Deshpande Layout area when a 28-year-old, identified as Neeraj Shankar Bhoyar, was bludgeoned to death following a dispute during gambling on Friday night, newswire PTI reported.
Bhoyar's friend Vishal Bhagwanji Raut (27) suffered serious injuries after he was attacked with sharp weapons, said the official from Nandanvan police station. He is battling for life at the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/crime-news-2-friends-murdered-in-nagpur-over-dispute-on-unpaid-motorcycle-emis-4-including-a-juvenile-held-23333136" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Government Medical College and Hospital</a> (GMCH).
Two persons have been held in connection with the attack on Bhoyar and Raut.
In the second incident, a dispute between a youth and his car driver turned deadly.
Sachin Yashwant Uikey (30) was repeatedly punched in the face by the driver, Darshan Ravindra Bhandekar (23), causing the former to fall and sustain critical injuries. He died during treatment at GMCH on Saturday morning, the official said.
A <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/man-dies-of-accidental-stabbing-in-nagpur-while-preventing-suicide-attempt-of-brothers-friend-23332245" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">case of murder </a>has been registered against Bhandekar, he added.
Meanwhile, a labourer died of electrocution while another was injured when the scaffolding they were standing on touched a live wire at a building in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred in the Oswal locality of Boisar, where the two men were painting a building, an official from <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-nagpur-property-dealer-murdered-by-business-partner-two-others-in-moving-suv-23331099" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Boisar MIDC police</a> said.
The men were standing on a metal scaffolding, which came in contact with a live wire, he said.
The workers were rushed to a hospital, where one of them was declared dead, while the other one is undergoing treatment for severe wounds, the official said.
The deceased man's body has been sent for post-mortem, and further probe is underway, he said.
In other news, Navi Mumbai police arrested two persons for allegedly cheating a contractor of Rs 50 lakh by luring him to invest in a fraudulent scheme, an official said on Saturday.
The police on Friday arrested Venkatesh Balkrishna Sada (41) and Prakash Dhuri (66), while two other accused are absconding, the official said.
According to the police, the accused allegedly lured the complainant, a contractor from Kalwa in neighbouring Thane, to invest in a fraudulent corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme at the APMC Market in Navi Mumbai.
A case under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused on Thursday, he said.
Sada allegedly posed as an employee of a multinational company, enticed the complainant with the promise of a lucrative CSR opportunity and made him invest Rs 50 lakh, senior inspector Ajay Shinde said. (With inputs from agencies)
