Crime: Two policemen attacked with sickles for stopping booze party

<p>One cop was hit on the head and is critical, while the other was struck on the back, after they stopped some youth from drinking in a public place in Pune</p>

Furious at not being allowed to consume liquor while celebrating a friend’s birthday, four young men assaulted two police constables at Ghorpadi market at 11.45 pm on Saturday. One of the policemen has sustained serious injuries after being hit with a sickle, while the other has received minor wounds in the grievous assault. Mundhwa police said they have arrested one of the attackers. The other three have been located and will be arrested soon.

The injured constable Sahebrao Kodag — posted at Mundhwa police station — is undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Ruby hospital. His skull is fractured and doctors conducted a major operation on him yesterday. His colleague Padmakar Shelar sustained minor injuries and is being treated in the general ward of the hospital.
