A day after MiD DAY highlighted the plight of a raped eight-year-old&rsquo;s mother who was denied a copy of the first information report (FIR) by the Yerawada police, recorded her statement where she alleged that the authorities and the caretaker tried to cover the earlier incident of sexual abuse of her daughter. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/dec/Balgram-SOS.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 321px;" /> Balgram SOS Children&rsquo;s Village in Yerawada. File pic Meanwhile, when the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members pointed out to the cops that the crime occurred due to the reluctance of SOS Balgram shelter for orphans in separating boys from girls, cops asked them to give a statement about how the authorities did not pay heed to their repeated reminders after a 2011 government resolution. Speaking to MiD DAY, the survivor&rsquo;s mother claimed that cops handed over the FIR copy to her, shared the medical reports and also recorded her statement. &ldquo;I feel much more at peace and I am confident that cops will help get justice for my daughter,&rdquo; she said. Child rights activist Anjali Pawar who had accompanied her to the police station said that she gave her statement on how the home&rsquo;s authorities were neglectful while handling the case. She also claimed that had the authorities reacted to the mother&rsquo;s complaint earlier, the girl would not have undergone the sexual assault. CWC members V N Sankpal and Sandhya Meshram met Yerawada cops and told them about the heedlessness of the authorities to their suggestion. Sankpal told MiD DAY, &ldquo;We are going to give a statement to the police regarding the same; this clearly shows the negligent attitude of the authorities.&rdquo; Senior inspector Kishor Jadhav said, &ldquo;I have requested CWC members and officials from women and child development department to share the correspondence with Balgram officials which will help us probe negligence if any.&rdquo; Jadhav added that he would record statements of CWC members and officials of the district women and child development department (DWCD).u00a0
