A 40-year-old man, who claimed himself to be a writer for the entertainment industry, has been arrested on the charge of raping a woman from Haryana at his home.

The 27-year-old complainant, who is involved in a legal dispute with her in-laws, had come in contact with accused Harish Bhimsen Gadi through her lawyer. Gadi allegedly promised to get her a job in films and teach her acting in two weeks.

"Gadi asked the woman to visit Mumbai on Valentine's Day saying he had organised a party that would be attended by film directors, producers and writers. He told her that he was even ready to pay for her travel," said a police officer.

The woman arrived at Gadi's home at Azirana building at Evershine Nagar, Malad West, in the evening of February 14. Gadi told her the party would start late at night.

After dinner, the complainant said Gadi started drinking and smoking. When she opposed it, Gadi allegedly told her that he would go outside and will return later and that she could stay at his place.

"Few minutes later, Gadi came back around 1.30 am saying he had forgotten something. He then raped the woman. After she somehow got freed and locked herself in a washroom, the accused fled the house. She then called a friend in Haryana and asked him to rush to Mumbai," said the police quoting her complaint.

The friend took her to Joint Commissioner of Law and Order Vishwas Nangare Patil.

"We arrested Gadi from his residence on Friday [February 19]," said Senior Inspector Shobha Pise. The next day, a court remanded Gadi in police custody till February 23.
