<p>The police on Monday said that a case has been registered against four persons in Maharashtra's <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-four-booked-for-cheating-bhiwandi-businessman-of-rs-22-4-lakh-23540023" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane district</a> for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 4 lakh after promising to double her investment in a fortnight, reported news agency PTI.</p>
<p>Based on a complaint, the Ambernath police have registered a first information report (FIR) under sections 318(4) (cheating) and 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), an official said.</p>
<p>He said the complainant has alleged that the accused, Ganesh Kadu, Rahul Shahu, Mohit Jha and Vishal Ashra, approached her in September 2024, claiming that they were expecting to receive a large sum of money through hawala but needed Rs 10 lakh upfront to process the deal, reported PTI.</p>
<p>The official said the accused assured the woman that if she gave them Rs 4 lakh, they would return double the amount in 15 days.</p>
<p>"The woman handed over the money to the accused, but they failed to return it and gave evasive responses when she followed up," he said, reported PTI.</p>
<p>The official said <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-thane-businessman-duped-of-rs-4-5-cr-in-gst-fraud-23540590" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">no arrests</a> have been made, and a probe has been initiated.</p>

<p>In another case, a 62-year-old man from <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-man-cheated-of-rs-67-65-lakh-in-online-share-trading-fraud-23504348" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra's </a>Thane city was allegedly duped of more than Rs 1.4 crore by two persons who lured him to invest in a gold trading scheme, police said on Monday, reported PTI.</p>
<p>Based on a complaint, a case has been registered under section 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, said an official from the Wagle Estate division.</p>
<p>He said the alleged fraud took place between April 11 and May 19.</p>
<p>The complainant, a consultant, has alleged that the accused convinced him to invest in a gold mining and trading scheme, promising a fixed monthly income from mining and 15 per cent returns from gold trade, the official said, reported PTI.</p>
<p>He said the complainant transferred more than Rs 1.4 crore into various bank accounts as directed by the duo but did not receive any returns.</p>
<p>When the complainant contacted the duo for updates on his investment, the accused avoided his calls and provided no clear response, the official said.</p>
<p>"We are probing the financial trail and attempting to trace the accused through digital and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/thane-crime-elderly-man-cheated-of-rs-30000-in-dombivili-23488353" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">bank transaction records</a>," the official added.</p>
