In a shocking twist, a major gold heist in Mumbai has turned out to be an inside job following which Mumbai Police has arrested the complainant and three others after recovery of the property.

According to the police, the RAK Marg Police in Mumbai under Zone 4 jurisdiction have uncovered that a high-value gold robbery on October 13, 2025, near Sewri Court, was an elaborate inside job planned by the complainant himself.

Shamlabhai Hothibhai Rabari (31) reported that his car, carrying 2,067.143 grams of hallmarked gold worth Rs 2.29 crore, had been forcibly stopped near Sewri Court by two armed men on a motorcycle, who pointed a pistol and fled with the loot. The police registered a case under multiple sections of the BNS, Arms Act, and Maharashtra Police Act, and launched a full-scale investigation.

However, the investigation soon revealed that the robbery was premeditated. The complainant, who orchestrated the heist, had instructed two of the accused — Bhanaram Bhagraj Rabari (21) and Lilaram Nagji Devasi (21), his relatives from Rajasthan — to carry out the theft. A fourth accused, Jogaram Masruram Devasi alias Motha Jagdish, was also involved in executing the plan.

CCTV analysis, technical surveillance, and coordinated police efforts led to the arrest of the first two accused in Ahmedabad, along with Motha Jagdish. A subsequent inquiry exposed that the complainant had planned the entire robbery and falsely presented himself as a victim to cover his tracks. The stolen gold and the mobile devices used in the crime were fully recovered.

The operation was supervised under the guidance of DCP Zone 4, Ragasudha R.
