An attempt by an older brother to protect his sibling ended in a violent knife attack in Govandi. Ajmal Ansari, 17, was critically injured on May 3 after confronting the accused Afan alias Saif Ali over his friendship with Ajmal’s younger brother Rehmat, police said. The incident took place around 8.30 pm near Plot No. 28 on Road No. 11 in Bainganwadi, Govandi, while Ajmal was returning home with his friend Aamir.

Rising friction

The complaint filed by Ajmal’s father, Shameem Inul Ansari, stated that the family had grown increasingly worried after Rehmat allegedly began roaming outside till late hours and spending time with Afan.
