The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/navi-mumbai-drugs-worth-rs-183-cr-seized-11-african-nationals-arrested-23346381" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra</a> on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl residing in his neighbourhood in Navi Mumbai township, an official said, reported the PTI.
The 40-year-old accused and the victim were residents of the same building in Ulwe area, an official said on Sunday.
According to the PTI, on Saturday evening, the victim went to the house of the accused for playing. The accused then allegedly raped her, the official from NRI Sagari police station said.
The police said that the accused had earlier also sexually assaulted the girl, showed her obscene photographs and asked her not to inform about it to anyone, as per the PTI.
After the offence on Saturday, the girl informed her mother about it. The victim's parents then filed a police complaint following which the accused was arrested, the official said.
The accused was booked under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 376(2)(j)(n) (rape of a female under 12 years of age or a woman incapable of giving consent), 376AB (rape of female under 12 years of age) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the police said.
Cab driver for killing woman after she forced him to marry her, say cops
A cab driver was arrested by the Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra for allegedly killing a woman after she forced him to marry her, police said on Sunday, reported the PTI.
The decomposed body of the 27-year-old woman was found wrapped in a blanket and dumped in a dried-up rivulet at Talekhar along Chirner-Kharpada in Uran area of Navi Mumbai on April 25 morning, they said, as per the PTI.
The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mahadev-betting-app-case-actor-sahil-khan-arrested-by-sit-of-mumbai-police-remanded-to-custody-till-may-1-23346493" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">police</a> then sent the body for postmortem and registered a case against unidentified persons under various Indian Penal Code sections, including 302 (murder), Uran police station's senior inspector Satish Nikam said, according to the PTI.
While conducting a probe into the case, the police got information about a woman reported missing from Mankhurd Police Station limits in neighbouring Mumbai on April 18.
Upon verification, it came to light that the body found in Uran was of the missing woman, the official said.
Further probe suggested the woman was in love with the 28-year-old taxi driver, a resident of Nagpada in Mumbai.
The woman was forcing him to marry her but he refused which had led to a dispute between them, the official said, the news agency reported on Sunday.
On April 18 evening, the man picked up the woman from Mankhurd and took her for a drive in his car to Khadavli in Kalyan area of Thane district. He allegedly killed her at around 1 am on April 19 and threw the body in the rivulet, he said.
