Shaikh was allegedly "spreading radical propaganda against the country" and was in contact with some foreign nationals, according to the official.

A couple of persons were arrested in the case earlier by the Andhra Pradesh Police, and Shaikh was among the wanted accused, he said, reported PTI.

The Andhra Pradesh Police got a specific lead about Shaikh, following which they informed the Maharashtra ATS. On Monday, they conducted a joint operation in Malegaon and arrested the accused, the official said.

MHADA executive engineer caught taking bribe of Rs 40,000

In another case, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested an executive engineer of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000, an official said, reported PTI.

Ranjit Balasaheb Chavan (50), who works in the civil engineering department of MHADA's Bandra division, was caught on October 9, the ACB official said, reported PTI.

According to the anti-graft body, Chavan had initially demanded Rs 4 lakh to spare a person who had built an unauthorised structure at his house and runs a paying guest business. He then brought it down to Rs 2 lakh, reported PTI.

The 62-year-old man alerted the ACB as he didn't want to pay the bribe.

After verifying the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught Chavan red-handed while accepting the first instalment of Rs 40,000 from the complainant, the official said, reported PTI.

A case has been registered against Chavan under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against 10 students of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences for allegedly holding an event to mark the death anniversary of former DU professor G N Saibaba on the TISS campus, officials said on Tuesday, reported PTI.
