Mumbai Police on Thursday launched a search operation at the Vidhan Bhavan premises in Mumbai after the state legislature received a bomb threat through its official website.
According to official sources, the threat message was received before the start of the day’s proceedings during the ongoing state budget session.
Following the threat, security agencies tightened access to the Vidhan Bhavan complex and temporarily stopped entry to the premises to allow authorities to carry out a thorough search operation.
Police teams, along with bomb detection and disposal squads, began scanning the entire complex as a precautionary measure.
Four places mentioned in bomb threat email
According to Ram Shinde, the chairman of the state legislative council, a threatening email was received at 6.57 in the morning. The email mentioned that four places were on target, including Mumbai Metro, Court, Vidhan Bhavan and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
The Vidhan Bhavan premises witness heavy movement during the legislative session. Every day, MLAs, MLCs, ministers, and their personal staff visit the complex to attend the proceedings.

Officials said the search operation was launched to ensure safety at the legislature complex, which is considered a highly sensitive location during the session period.
Further details were awaited as the officials continued to examine the premises.
Possible hoax
The Minster of State for Home, Pankaj Bhoyar, said that the searches at the Vidhan Bhavan premises were almost complete and nothing suspicious was found during the checks.
He said prima facie it seems to be hoax. There was no need to fear or panic, he said, adding that the police were verifying the origin of the email as part of their investigations.
