The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-senior-inspector-and-psi-from-wadala-tt-police-station-held-while-accepting-rs-2-lakh-bribe-23595979?entertainment-bollywood-news-article-breakingnews" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Anti-Corruption Bureau</a> (ACB) has arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a man booked in a case, an official said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI.
The ACB laid a trap on Friday and caught Shashikant Laxman Bhalerao (49), an ASI attached to the Mumbra police station, while accepting the bribe amount, the official said, reported PTI.
According to the ACB, the accused cop had demanded Rs 50,000 from a man against whom a case had been registered at the<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/anti-corruption-bureau-in-mumbai-arrests-advocate-in-bribery-case-police-inspector-on-the-run-23595637" target="_blank" rel="none noopener"> police station</a>.
"He sought the bribe to help the complainant and to return his seized scooter. After negotiations, he agreed to accept Rs 25,000," the official said, reported PTI.
The ASI has been booked under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, he added.
<h2>Two police officials arrested red-handed while taking bribe</h2>
In another case, a senior police inspector and a junior official attached to the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/three-govt-staffers-held-in-ratnagiri-for-accepting-rs-16500-bribe-to-manipulate-audit-report-23593851" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Wadala Truck Terminal </a>(WTT) police station were on Friday arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while allegedly accepting bribe, reported PTI.
Senior inspector Chandrakant Sarode (52) and sub-inspector Rahul Waghmode were caught red-handed, the ACB claimed in a release, reported PTI.
As per the complainant, he had a dispute with another person over a community hall in the WTT area. There was an altercation, and a complaint was registered at WTT police station against him.
Waghmode allegedly called the complainant and demanded Rs 50,000 for himself and Rs 5 lakh for Sarode for helping him by not arresting his daughter, and also to take action against the opposite parry, reported PTI.
Waghmode allegedly collected Rs 20,000 on September 10. <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/vasai-virar-construction-scam-ex-civic-chief-caught-in-rs-275-cr-bribe-racket-23590575" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">The bribe</a> amount for Sarode was reduced to Rs 4 lakh after negotiations.
Meanwhile, the complainant approached the ACB.
The bureau on Friday afternoon laid a trap, and arrested Sarode and Waghmode while accepting Rs 2 lakh and Rs 30,000, respectively.
Further probe is on, the officials said.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has nabbed a lawyer for accepting a Rs 4.50 lakh bribe on behalf of a GRP inspector from a friend of a man, arrested in a criminal case here, for not apprehending him too in the same matter, officials said on Wednesday.
