According to the news agency, the incident occurred at an unauthorised building in Diva town of Thane around 12.30 pm on Thursday, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).

The two men were working on the rooftop when they lost their balance and fell, he said.

Lavkush Gautam (23) sustained severe injuries and died on the way to the hospital, while the other injured worker received treatment at a local hospital, the official said.

The Mumbra Police have initiated a probe into the accident.

In an another incident, a 22-year-old plumber died after he fell into a lift duct at a construction site in Maharashtra's Thane city, an official said on Friday, the PTI reported.

Kumar sustained serious injuries after he lost his balance and plunged into a lift duct filled with water. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead, the official said citing the complaint.

The police on Thursday registered a case against the building contractor at the site under Indian Penal Code section 304A (causing death by negligence), said the station house officer of the police station.

Meanwhile, as many as nine persons were injured in a fire that broke out after a gas leak in Mumbai's Chembur area, fire officials said on Friday. The injured persons have been admitted to hospitals.
