Chennai: A 27-year old man was arrested here today for allegedly cheating a woman whom he befriended through online chat and married before absconding with jewellery, police said.

V Balamanigandan, a computer science engineering graduate, had got introduced to the young woman student through internet chat platforms. Subsequently, he married her at a sub-registrar office and they continued to live in their respective homes after their wedding in Tamil film "Alaipayuthey" style. He snapped ties with her after allegedly taking her 51 sovereigns of jewels, police said.
