The Trombay police have arrested two Uran-based people for allegedly selling charas, that had washed ashore a month ago. A 26-year-old fisherman had found the narcotics on the shore and showed it to a friend who confirmed that it was genuine. Both decided to sell the drugs in the market and had come to Mankhurd for this. When cops caught them with 1.5 kg of charas, the team questioned them about the origin of the drugs and recovered 6.4 kg of charas worth Rs 30.22 lakh from the accused’s hometown.
In August, the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch unit arrested a man in his thirties who had come with 2 kg charas to sell. When questioned about the origin of the drugs, he took police to Ratnagiri where he handed over 8 kg of charas. He then revealed that he had found packets of the drug on the seashore. The Ratnagiri cops then launched a search operation along the coast to find more such packets.

Packets weighing as much as 500 kg had washed ashore at Ratnagiri, Raigad and Gujarat. According to cops, a big consignment of narcotics must have fallen in the water either accidentally or as part of an attempt to dispose of them. The covers had ‘Afghan and Pakistan Product’ printed on them.
On September 27, the Trombay cops received information that two people were coming to Mankhurd to sell drugs.
Senior Inspector Ravindra Ranshevare directed Inspector Fareed Khan to carry out the operation. The team reached Maharashtra Nagar around midnight and waited at Patra chawl. Around 12.05 am, they noticed a person arriving on a bike. The individual parked the two-wheeler nearby and was waiting for someone with a white bag. “The informer pointed out the person and we nabbed him. The nabbed man identified himself as Mohammed Nadeem Idris Shah, 30, a resident of Uran,” a police officer said. The cops found 1.598 kg of charas on him.
“When Shah was asked from where he got the packet, he said one Akshay Waghmare, 26, had given it to him. He added that the latter was waiting for him at the Vashi octroi naka. We nabbed Waghmare and recovered 2.130 kg of charas from him,” said another officer.
