In a major accident on New Link Road near Mindspace in Malad West, resulted in the loss of a 21-year-old man's life and injuries to a 55-year-old individual. The incident occurred when a minor took the wheel of a car, ultimately crashing it into a tree. Charges have been filed against the underage driver and his friend, who allowed him to drive the vehicle despite being aware of his age, an official said.

The Bangur Nagar police station received reports of a car colliding with two pedestrians and subsequently crashing into a tree near Interface Building Number 7 at Mindspace on New Link Road in Malad West. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a Suzuki Baleno on the footpath, bearing significant damage and surrounded by bloodstains, the police said.

One of the injured victims, a 21-year-old, was rushed to a nearby hospital in Chincholi Bunder, while the other, a 55-year-old, received medical attention at Shatabdi Hospital, an official said.

The police apprehended the driver and the passenger of the car. The driver, a minor, proved an Aadhar card indicating his date of birth. The passenger, Sameer Shaikh, aged 19, was also taken into custody. Both were residents of Jogeshwari and had borrowed the car from their friend, Saad Faizal Solanki, for a joyride. Solanki, who had rented the car from Asif Khan, was allegedly aware that the driver was a minor and reportedly without a valid driver's license, the official added.

Eyewitnesses recounted the Baleno car speeding onto the footpath, striking the two men, and crashing into a tree. Passersby rushed the injured victims to the hospital.

Unfortunately, the 21-year-old victim, identified as Shubham Rawat from Goregaon East, succumbed to a severe head injury. The 55-year-old, Dattaram Ayer, employed as a housekeeping staff member at Modern Facility Management company and residing in Malwani, was discharged after receiving medical care, the police said.

The police have charged the underage driver, a college student, with causing death due to negligence under Section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code, in addition to sections 337, 338, and 427 of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Solanki, who knowingly allowed the minor without a valid license, to drive the car, has also been booked for his role in the incident.
