In a major blow to the narcotics nexus in Mumbai, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Crime Branch seized drugs worth over Rs 2.36 crore from Andheri West. Two people have also been arrested in separate raids carried out by the Azad Maidan and Kandivali units.
The first raid was executed on July 7, acting on a tip-off by the Azad Maidan Unit, which raided the Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri West. The Azad Maidan unit of the Anti-Narcotics cell arrested a 46-year-old with 703 grams of charas and 104 grams of mephedrone (MD). The ANC also recovered Rs 18 lakh in cash. The total value of the seizure is estimated at Rs 1.14 crore, including the drugs.
The following day, on July 8, the Kandivali Unit, while patrolling the Versova area in Andheri West, apprehended a 31-year-old man allegedly in possession of 306 grams of heroin. The seized heroin was valued at approximately Rs 1.22 crore.
Initial investigations by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Crime Branch suggest that both accused were involved in the smuggling and peddling of multiple narcotics, including heroin, charas, and MD, primarily in the Andheri area. The ANC is continuing its investigation to uncover the larger network.
This successful operation was conducted by DCP Navnath Dhawale, ANC.
The Lokhandwala raid was led by Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Dahiphale, while the raid executed at Versova was led by Senior Inspector Shashikant Jagdale, with key support from ACP Sudhir Hirdekar.
In view of the increasing narcotic supply and narcotic nexus across the city, the Anti-Narcotics Cell has urged citizens to report any drug-related activity through its confidential helpline at 981911222 or the Narcotics Control Bureau’s national helpline ‘Manas’ at 1933.
