Two members of a Gujarat-based gang were arrested on Tuesday for looting a 27-year-old man of Rs 21 lakh outside an Angadia office in Malad (West).

The accused have been identified as Vishal Tamanche, 42, and Amit Tamanche, 25.

As per Dindoshi police, victim Vishal Gada registered a complaint on March 10 against unknown persons for looting him of Rs 21 lakh. As per the complaint, Gada went to the Angadia office in Malad (West) to collect the money. He exited the office and put the money in the boot of his scooty. Suddenly, some people came beside him and started arguing. Gada’s attention diverted from the scooty and meanwhile some members of the gang stole the cash.

Realising he has been looted, Gada lodged a complaint.

Dindoshi Police first checked the CCTV footage of the area. The footage showed exactly the way Gada had narrated the incident. Police, with the help of scientific investigation and through informers traced two of the accused to Ahmedabad.

The accused Vishal and Amit Tamanche were arrest from Ahmedabad. The duo revealed the modus operandi and the names of other group members, who are now wanted in this case.

The accused said their gang would target Anagadia offices in Mumbai, and keep a watch on individuals walking out with a money bag. They would usually choose individuals who had two-wheelers. As soon as any such individual came out, they  would block his way and start fighting. As soon as the victim's attention was diverted, rest would take the victim's keys and steal the cash.

The accused also confessed to having robbed another individual in Kurar of Rs 7 lakh. However, police suspect that they were also involved in another such looting in Malad in December of Rs 35 lakh.

This gang was also booked earlier by Gujarat police on charges of selling liquor, said police.
