The Crime Branch  Unit 8 has arrested a 37-year-old man with fake currency worth Rs 95,100 near Milan Subway in Santacruz East on Friday night. The police said the accused was caught red-handed as he exchanged fake notes with a client. In this matter, the crime branch has also detained one more person and are investigating further.


The accused was identified as Irfan Jilani Shaikh, 37, who is a resident of Santa Cruz East. They also recovered 190 fake 500 rupee notes. In this regard, the crime branch informed Vakola police station and registered the FIR on Friday.


The crime branch officer said, “We received information from reliable sources about the accused carrying fake currency. Our unit team comprising, PI Sawant, PSI Powar, and head constable Mane, Ulhas Sawant, policeman Naik Tawade, Vishvas Sawant, Rehare, woman constable Gaikwad and constable D Sutar, laid a trap at Milan Subway and nabbed the accused Shaikh. He hid all the money inside his pants and shirt.”
