The Mumbai Crime Branch has busted an inter-state gang that allegedly carried out large-scale fraud targeting a major e-commerce company by tampering with delivery barcode stickers.

According to the police, the gang orchestrated the scam on Monday at Panchavati Marg near the Reliance Digital Store in Borivali West. The accused reportedly swapped barcode stickers between high-value items and their own parcels during delivery, ensuring the valuable goods were returned without authorisation while the company refunded the original orders.

The four arrested individuals include three men from Haryana (all aged 32) and a 29-year-old from Chhattisgarh. The police have recovered goods worth Rs 45,09,333, comprising electrical and electronic items worth Rs 34,09,333, a Tata company vehicle valued at Rs 7 lakh, and a Hyundai car worth Rs 4 lakh.

The accused were produced before the additional chief judicial magistrate in Dadar, and have been granted police custody until October 13 for further investigation.

The operation was executed under the guidance of Police Commissioner Devendra Bharati, with assistance from senior officers and a dedicated team, including Sub-Inspector Rohan Bagade.

Police said they are investigating further to uncover the full extent of the fraud and identify any other accomplices.
