A 65-year-old man, whose son was booked in an extortion case by the MHB police and is absconding, abused the police team and tried to end his life when the police reached his residence to arrest his son. The alleged incident took place on Tuesday evening at Makadwala compound in Dahisar West. The septuagenarian, identified as Laxman Kunchikorve, was rescued by the police. He was later booked for deterring public servant from discharging their duty.
The MHB police reached Kunchikorve's residence after constable Pravin Jople received the information that accused Mahadev Kunchikorve, wanted in an extortion case, was at home.
Detection officer PSI Vijay Dhotre along with Jople and his staff reached Mahadev's house. However, Mahadev's father Laxman started shouting and abusing them when he learnt that the police has come to arrest his son.
Police officials tried to calm him down but he did not listen and started pushing them. Laxman ran inside the house and came back with a kerosene can. He started pouring it on his body and was trying to set himself ablaze, however, the cops managed to rescue him. Later, he was brought to MHB police station. "We have arrested him under Sections 309 and 353 of the IPC," an officer said.
