Upset over rejection of his marriage proposal, a 24-year-old man tried to push a woman under a moving train in Khar on Friday night.

The accused was identified as Sumedh Jadhav. He initially tried to jump in front of the train himself and then pushed the girl, said Bandra Government Railway Police officials.

Two years ago, Jadhav and the victim were working at the same place and he fell in love with her and wished to marry. However, she turned down his proposal as he drinks alcohol. Even after being rejected, Jadhav used to chase the woman, said GRP officials.

Tired of his harassment, the woman's family had lodged a complaint at the Nirmal Nagar police station after which Sumedh stopped his advances. However, after some time, he started harassing her again.

On Friday, when the woman arrived at Khar station, the accused first pretended to jump in front of the train and then tried to push her under it, as per CCTV footage of the station.

"Sumedh then fled from the spot but was eventually arrested " said Vilas Chowgule, senior police inspector, Bandra GRP.
