<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/illegal-lpg-refilling-and-black-marketing-operation-busted-in-khar-west-accused-on-the-run-23633024" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Khar Police in Mumbai</a> have arrested a 67-year-old man who had allegedly been absconding for nearly 18 years in connection with a theft case registered in 2008.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Kamil alias Kaleem Ansari, was arrested by a special team after police received information about his location in Santosh Nagar, Goregaon East.
According to police, a theft case was registered against Ansari in 2008 under Sections 379 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The case was being heard before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, 9th Court, Bandra East, Mumbai. Police said the accused repeatedly remained absent during <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/hospital-assault-case-kalyan-court-in-maharashtra-remands-shiv-sena-corporator-ramesh-mhatre-in-police-custody-till-july-13-23639200" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">court proceedings</a>, following which the court issued a proclamation order against him.
The proclamation was issued on May 6, 2022.
<h2>Police team uses technical information to trace accused</h2>
While searching for wanted and absconding accused, the special surveillance and externment team of Khar Police Station received technical information about Ansari&rsquo;s whereabouts.
Acting on the information, police laid a trap in Goregaon East and arrested him.
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-sessions-court-denies-bail-to-man-accused-of-cyberstalking-woman-23639198" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Police said the arrest was carried out by the team</a> after carefully tracking the accused&rsquo;s movements.
<h2>Police team involved in operation</h2>
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior Police Inspector Santosh Kate, Khar Police Station, Police Inspector Sachin Wagh and Police Sub-Inspector Dinesh Patil.
The team included police personnel Gurav, Pophale, Pawar, Mane and Thombre.
The accused has been handed over for further <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mother-of-doctor-assaulted-by-shiv-sena-corporator-demands-protection-for-medical-professionals-23639148" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">legal proceedings</a>.
