Around 21,60,000 smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 4,75,20,000 were seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers from Nhava Sheva Port on Sunday.
The ‘Gudang Garam’ cigarettes were hidden behind a declared cargo of wallets, said DRI officers.
Investigation revealed that the aforesaid consignment was imported using Importer Exporter Code (IEC) which has been obtained by mis-using KYC documents.
This was the fifth seizure made by DRI Mumbai in a series of tobacco seizures in the last 2 months. No arrest has been made so far. Further investigation is underway.
