Mumbai Customs on Tuesday said that it has seized 7.318 kilograms of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) (hydroponic weed) and 99 bottles of 100 ml cough syrup containing codeine phosphate across four cases in five days.
According to the Mumbai Customs, the officials from the Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs Zone III made the seizures between July 15 and July 20.
The officials nabbed four people for the possession of the said narcotics.
The first incident occurred on the night of July 14th/15th when, on the basis of profiling, officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport caught a traveller from Bangkok and recovered 610 grams of hydroponic weed. The individual was then arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985.
Two arrests following the first also involved passengers travelling from Bangkok, who were carrying 5,265 grams and 1,452 grams of hydroponic weed respectively.
Both individuals were caught and charged under the NDPS Act.
In a separate incident, based on intelligence, officers stopped a passenger travelling from Mumbai to Riyadh and recovered 99 bottles of cough syrup. The passenger was also charged under the NDPS Act.
