The Airport Commissionerate of Mumbai Customs Zone III has made significant seizures of gold, totalling over 2.59 kilograms and valued at Rs 1.39 crore across four separate cases from February 26-27.
Sarika Shah, the Additional Commissioner of Customs for Zone III, disclosed the details of each case.

In the first case, an Indian national arriving from Dubai via Emirates Flight EK 500 was intercepted. Upon investigation, officials discovered 1675.00 grams (net) of 24 karat gold dust concealed in the inner garments worn by the passenger.
In second case, a foreign national arriving from Dubai aboard Indigo Flight 6E 1456 was intercepted. Subsequent inspection revealed 455.00 grams (net) of 24 karat gold jewellery (6 pieces) concealed within the passenger's clothing and on their person.
In third case, another Indian national arriving from Dubai, this time via Vistara Flight UK 202, was intercepted. Authorities uncovered 236.00 grams (net) of 24 karat gold jewellery (5 pieces) concealed on the passenger's body.
In fourth case, an Indian national arriving from Jeddah on Saudi Arabia Airlines Flight SV 770 was intercepted by customs officials. A thorough search yielded 233.00 grams (net) of 24 karat crude gold chain concealed in the passenger's handbag.
On 25-26 February 2024, Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs has seized over 7.28 kgs gold, valued at Rs 3.90 crore on February 25 and 26. The seizers are from 13 different cases.
"On the basis of specific intel, one unclaimed case of 24 KT gold weighing 583 grams was detected during rummaging of Indigo's Male to Mumbai. The seized gold was concealed behind mirror panel of the lavatory located at the front end of the flight", the Mumbai customs official said.
The Mumbai customs shared details of the cases including- two Indian Nationals, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai, intercepted and 24 KT Gold dust, collectively weighing 1,350 grams was found concealed in shampoo and lotion bottles, and bread spread kept in check-in bag carried by the passenger. While, another Indian national, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai flight was intercepted and 24 KT Gold Jewellery was found concealed in the socks worn by the passenger.
