Diamonds valued at Rs 5.62 crore have reportedly been stolen from a gem company's store in Mumbai over a span of six months, according to a report in the PTI. In response, the police have apprehended three individuals, including two employees of the firm, according to an official statement on Wednesday.


Sanjay Shah, a director at JB and Brothers Private Limited, which operates a store in the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Bandra-Kurla Complex, lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that diamonds worth Rs 5.62 crore were missing from their inventory, as reported by an official from the BKC police station.


As per the PTI report, the official said that the complainant suspected that the firm's employees, Prashant Shah and Vishal Shah, both residing in Kandivali, had been involved in pilfering diamonds from the store since April.


Additionally, Nilesh Shah, a former employee of the company, is alleged to have aided the two in selling the stolen diamonds, based on information from the FIR.

Reportedly, the police have detained the three suspects and charged them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 420 (cheating), as stated by the official. The investigation into the case is ongoing, the police authorities have confirmed.\

In another incident, the Navi Mumbai Police in Maharashtra registered a case against 10 men on charges of sexual harassment of women and rioting during a discussion on gram panchayat poll preparations in the city. The four women, according to the PTI report, were injured in the incident which happened in Nhavagaon in Pavel on Tuesday.

According to the report, the women from the village were holding a discussion on preparations for the gram panchayat elections scheduled on November 5. Upon his arrival, the accused picked up a quarrel with them and allegedly tore the dress of one of the women, attacked others with iron logs and abused them. 

Based on the women's complaint, a case was registered against 10 men under Indian Penal Code Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 143, 149 (unlawful assembly) and 147 (rioting).
