The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai has seized 4.7 kg of cocaine worth approximately Rs 47 crore from a passenger arriving from Colombo at the Mumbai airport, an official statement said on Friday.

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted the woman passenger at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and found nine pouches of a white powdery substance hidden inside coffee packets in her baggage.

Field tests confirmed that the substance was cocaine, officials said.

In a follow-up operation, the intended recipient of the narcotics was also arrested at the airport. Further investigation led to the capture of three more individuals involved in financing, logistics, collection, and distribution of the drugs.

All five arrested have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to trace the larger network behind the smuggling attempt. The DRI reaffirmed its commitment to a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” by disrupting narcotics supply chains, dismantling international trafficking syndicates, and protecting public health and safety.
