The accused, Pankaj Singh was nabbed from Kalyan

The Kandivli Police on Sunday said that it has arrested a driver who allegedly escaped with Rs 35 lakh cash and a motorbike of a Kandivli-based developer and share trader.

The arrested accused has been identified as Pankaj Singh, 35. He was nabbed by the police last night near Kalyan Phata on the Kalyan-Nashik highway, the police said.

During the investigation, it has been revealed that Singh is a native of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh and was working as a driver for a Kandivli resident, sources said.

Sources added, the developer had purchased a land in Gujarat, for which he had sent Rs 35 lakh in cash to give it to the owner of the land. He had sent the money through one of his loyal and most trusted employees, Yogesh, who had been working for him for the past 10 years. As Yogesh did not know to ride a bike, the complainant had sent Singh along with him.

When they reached the place, the security guards of the building asked them to make an entry in the guest registered book. While Yogesh was busy entering details, Singh fled away along with the cash on the bike, an officer said.

The police had launched a manhunt to nab Singh. They managed to get the details of his native place while interrogating his roommates, the official added.
