Mumbai: Duo arrested for robbing jeweller of gold worth Rs 2.5 lakh

An officer said that as Gujjar was a garage mechanic, he knew how to start a bike without a key. The duo was nabbed based on the CCTV footage recovered from the shop and technical evidence and ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh were recovered from them, the officer added.

Two weeks after two men made away with a box of jewellery worth '2.5 lakh from a store in Charkop, the local police arrested the duo from the Malvani Church area late on Wednesday. One of the accused had posed as a customer and entered Padmavati Jewellers, while the other person was waiting on a bike outside the shop. The arrested accused have been identified as Ravikumar Singh, 31, and Shyam Gujjar, 23.

During interrogation it was found that the bike used in the crime had been stolen from Mira Road area. It was also revealed that the accused stole two more bikes from Charkop and MHB areas recently. Cops suspect that they have carried out similar robberies in the city and adjoining areas. They would remove the number plates of the bikes and use them for the crimes.
