<p>The Borivali Police in Mumbai have arrested two men within 24 hours for allegedly posing as police officers and <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-crime-two-arrested-for-assaulting-rickshaw-passenger-snatching-her-purse-containing-rs-3000-in-andheri-23644295" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">robbing </a></strong>an 18-year-old of his gold chain in Gorai, Borivali West.</p>
<p>Police said the victim was deliberately targeted as one of the accused was acquainted with the complainant's friend and allegedly knew about his financial status.</p>
<h2>Victim allegedly threatened by fake cop</h2>
<p>The incident took place on August 10 near the BMC Garden gate, close to Akashvani Kendra. According to police, the complainant, Vedant Nayan Mehta, 18, was approached by a motorcyclist who claimed to be a police officer.</p>
<p>The suspect allegedly struck Mehta on the ear, threatened to implicate him in a <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/bombay-high-court-quotes-f-scott-fitzgerald-while-denying-compensation-to-intoxicated-man-23616359" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">case related to intoxication</a></strong> and demanded money to 'settle' the matter.</p>
<p>When Mehta refused to pay, the accused allegedly snatched a 15-gram gold chain from his neck and fled. The chain was valued at approximately Rs 2 lakh.</p>
<h2>CCTV, technical analysis help police identify suspects</h2>
<p>Following the complaint, the Borivali Police examined CCTV footage from the Gorai area and conducted technical analysis to identify the suspects.</p>
<p>The investigation led police to Anmol Jadhav and his alleged associates Rohan Umesh Redkar, 22, and Virtik Ravindra Singh Chauhan, 18.</p>
<p>Redkar and Chauhan were subsequently detained and questioned. During interrogation, police allegedly learnt that the robbery was not random and that the complainant had been deliberately targeted.</p>
<p>Police said one of the arrested accused was a friend of the complainant's friend and was aware of Mehta's financial status.</p>
<h2>Gold chain recovered</h2>
<p>According to police, the accused allegedly conspired with their associates and <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-ex-employees-tip-off-leads-to-planned-abduction-in-antop-hill-police-recover-rs-29-69-lakh-23626862" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">planned the robbery</a></strong> after identifying Mehta as a target. The alleged conspiracy came to light during interrogation following the arrests.</p>
<p>Police said the stolen gold chain, weighing approximately 15 grams and valued at around Rs 2 lakh, has been recovered from the arrested accused.</p>
<h2>Two booked under BNS sections</h2>
<p>The two men have been booked at Borivali Police Station under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They are currently in police custody.</p>
<p>The arrests were made by PSI Raju Korde and the Borivali Police crime detection team under the supervision of senior officers, including ACP Santosh Dhanwate, Senior Inspector Pushpalata Mandale and Police Inspector (Crime) Digvijay Patil.</p>
<h2>Police probe role of absconding accused</h2>
<p>Police are now probing the role of the <strong><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-absconder-arrested-28-year-hunt-ends-as-jogeshwari-police-arrests-long-absconding-accused-23642383" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">absconding accused</a></strong> and checking whether the group was involved in similar robberies in the area.</p>
