A woman in the eastern suburb of Ghatkopar in Mumbai has filed a harrowing complaint of alleged rape by her father-in-law, along with accusations of harassment by four other family members, according to local authorities.

According to the PTI report, following the complaint, the police registered a case on Saturday, invoking section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code against the woman's father-in-law. Additionally, an offence under relevant provisions of the IPC was filed against the four other family members accused of subjecting her to dowry-related harassment.

The woman's complaint details a deeply distressing ordeal, asserting that her father-in-law forcibly entered her room approximately two weeks ago when she was alone and allegedly raped her. Furthermore, she claims that she endured mental and physical abuse from her in-laws, spanning from February 2022 until June of this year.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities focusing on gathering evidence and conducting thorough interviews with all parties involved.

In another incident, a former police constable turned spiritual guru, Gokul Jadhav, along with his son Anirudh, has been apprehended by Kalwa police in connection with a rape case dating between January 2021 and June 2023. The survivor, in her statement to the police, explained how she and her husband were introduced to Jadhav, an acquaintance of her husband, who later invited them to his residence in Thane.

During their visit, Jadhav introduced her to his family, and during a subsequent visit, Jadhav's wife and son accused her husband of having an affair. To validate their claim, Jadhav urged her to call her husband, who did not answer, leading her to believe the accusations. Jadhav then began performing rituals and administered tablets and water to her, causing drowsiness.

In a distressing turn of events, Jadhav declared Anirudh as her husband during one ritual, and she was allegedly raped by him. It wasn't until her husband discovered the tablets and infused water that she mustered the courage to reveal the abuse. She subsequently filed a rape case against Jadhav, his wife, and his son.

The Kalwa police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013. Jadhav, who was suspended from the Navi Mumbai police force a decade ago following allegations of extortion, has since assumed the role of a spiritual guru and amassed valuable properties, which are currently under investigation.
