The Charkop police have arrested one of the shooters, Guddu Singh, in connection with the firing on 40-year-old property dealer Freddy D’Mello in Kandivali West. Two more accused remain absconding, and three police teams have been formed to trace them.

According to police sources, the accused fired two rounds at D’Mello near Garda Petrol Pump in Charkop. The attack is suspected to be linked to a long-standing property dispute and was reportedly carried out as an act of revenge. Investigators said the shooters had been trailing D’Mello from his residence.

D’Mello had visited a friend at a nearby school, and as he stepped out, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle—triple-seated—and opened fire.

Despite sustaining two bullet injuries to his chest, D’Mello managed to drive himself to Oscar Hospital, where he was admitted. Doctors conducted a four-hour surgery and successfully removed the bullets from his upper and lower chest. Hospital authorities confirmed to Mid-Day that he is now out of danger.
