Nalasopara man arrested for attempted murder of wife over suspected affair

A 36-year-old man from Nalasopara was arrested for attempted murder of his wife over the issue of an alleged extramarital affair. The incident took place on Sunday (May 18), said police. According to police sources, the couple, married for over eight years, had been facing marital issues and living separately for the past six months. The accused works as an electrician, while the victim is a security guard at a local mall.

According to a complaint filed with the police, on Sunday (May 18) night, the accused visited his wife in Achole, and soon after she opened the door to let him in, he stabbed her on the left side of her stomach and attempted to stab her again. According to the police, when the victim attempted to flee, the accused chased her with the knife. During her desperate attempt to escape, the woman sustained serious injuries. Two neighbours, alerted by her cries for help, rushed to the scene. Upon seeing them, the accused fled the scene.

“As the complainant tried to resist and grab the knife, the accused slashed her right thumb. In the struggle to save her life, the victim sustained further injuries to her wrist, forearm and neck,” said a police officer. “Despite her injuries, the complainant managed to escape and later reached the police station to file a report,” said a police officer from the Achole police station.

Police said that the victim was taken to a nearby government hospital; however, she was later referred to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivli for further treatment. “The accused was arrested on Monday (May 19). Based on the victim’s complaint, we have registered a case under the relevant sections of the BNS,” confirmed API Yashpal Suryawanshi of Achole police station.
